Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions
Toastmasters International is a voluntary organisation. Its aims are very straightforward:
to help its members become good public speakers and develop leadership skills.
Toastmasters is not affiliated to any political, religious or commercial organisation.
However, you'll often hear of famous politicians, thought leaders, business personalities and other celebrities who've either been through the Toastmasters program, or who are still active Toastmasters. That's because Toastmasters clubs around the world have been the training ground of choice for public speakers for generations.
Unfortunately, no. Toastmasters International rules specify that new members must be at least 18 years of age.
However, some Toastmasters clubs run special, 8 week youth programs from time to time. These are called Youth Leadership Programs.
You can learn more about the Youth Programs here:Toastmasters Youth Leadership.
To find out if any clubs in Victoria currently run Youth Leadership Programs we suggest you make an enquiry through the website of our local district offices: Toastmasters District 73 Website.
Alternatively, you could try: Rostrum Australia. Rostrum Australia is in no way connected to Toastmasters International, or Sandbelt Toastmasters Club.
No. Sandbelt Toastmasters is a Wednesday night club. Toastmasters clubs usually pick fixed meeting times and stick to them. Changing our meeting time would require a club vote.
However, there are many clubs within driving distance who meet at different times. Some meet on other evenings, some meet over dinner. There are even a few Toastmasters clubs who meet over breakfast. To find alternatives visit Find a club in Victoria.
There is an initial, once off joining fee of $40, covering the cost of two manuals, various educational materials, registration with Toastmasters International and a name badge. Should you decide you'd like to hold simultaneous membership of two or more clubs after joining Sandbelt Toastmasters, you will not need to pay this fee again.
Ongoing membership dues are currently just $12 per month.
